Caravan: a whole school that runs offline
Every course, the tutor and the teacher’s tools on one low-cost laptop, charged by the sun.

Some places have no school building, no power line and no network: off-grid communities, crisis zones, families on the move. Caravan is being built for them.
Caravan is designed as a whole school on a low-cost laptop. Every course, the tutor and the teacher’s tools will arrive preloaded in a crate, with a small solar kit. Nothing will have to be downloaded first, and nothing will stop when the power or the network does.
From a crate to a classroom
It is designed to be running on the day the crate arrives.
- Deliver. Laptops, a solar kit and every course, preloaded and ready.
- Open. A teacher, or an older student, opens a laptop and the first lesson starts.
- Learn. Every child learns at their own level, in their own language.
- Sync. Progress saves on the device and syncs whenever a connection appears.
The tutor inside
The tutor in Caravan will be Liber Edge, the tier of Liber that runs on the device itself. It asks before it tells, offers hints instead of answers, and checks that each idea stuck before moving on, in the learner’s own language, from first letters to advanced work.
Safe without a connection
A school with no connection still needs every safeguard. Crossing Guard is designed to apply the strictest rules for children on the device itself, even offline. Passport will keep each child’s learning record, so it can travel with a family across camps and across borders.
Who it is for
Caravan is for the aid groups, ministries, foundations and local teachers who bring school to the places it hasn’t reached yet. If that is your work, partner with us.
Where it stands
Caravan is in development inside United Education, and it is not out yet. We will release it when it is ready, and its turn will come on the release ledger.
