Horizon: a live map of where jobs are going

See what is coming before it arrives, and what each job pays where you live.

At a long table in a public library, a grandfather shows his granddaughter something on a laptop.

AI is changing almost every job. It is hard to choose what to learn next without seeing which skills are growing and what they pay where you live.

Horizon is a live map of jobs, part of Commons, our open knowledge. It is being built to show demand, pay, growth and the skills each job needs, so anyone can see what is coming before it arrives.

What it will do

  • Show where work is going. Which jobs are growing and which are changing.
  • Show the pay, locally. What each job pays where you live, not an average from somewhere else.
  • Name the skills. The skills each job needs, so learning can aim at them.
  • Show its sources. Every number will show where it came from, so anyone can check it.

The idea behind it

A good choice needs an honest picture. Scout and Bridge, our advisors in Corner, are designed to show real jobs, real pay and real costs, and Horizon is meant to be one source of that picture. We plan to release it as a public good, open to anyone who wants to build on it.

How it fits

Horizon is one of three open maps: it maps the jobs, Source holds the courses, and Atlas links each skill to both. It is planned for Campus, Work and Service. Read more on the Commons page.

Where it stands

Horizon is being built inside United Education. We will release it when it is ready, and it will take its place on the release ledger.
