Liber Open: open tutor models anyone can build on

The Liber way of teaching, open for anyone to run and build on, at low cost.

On a rooftop at golden hour, a former teacher throws her arms wide to show how a student reacted, and the team laughs.

Liber Open is the open tier of Liber, our tutor, and one of our first three releases, with Liber Edge and Liber Frontier. It is a set of open tutor models that anyone can run and build on, anywhere, at low cost.

Why open

Developers, schools and public systems each know their own learners best. None of them should have to build a patient tutor from nothing. We build the hard parts once and open them wherever we can, and a patient tutor is one of the hardest parts of all.

The same way of teaching

Liber Open teaches the way every tier of Liber does.

  • Questions first. It asks what the learner thinks before it explains.
  • Hints, not answers. It offers the next small step, then waits.
  • At the learner’s pace. It checks that each idea stuck before moving on.
  • In the learner’s language. From first letters to advanced work.

Low cost, on purpose

Free only works if teaching costs very little. Every dollar we save lets another person learn, so Liber Open is built to run at low cost, for the people who build on it and for the learners they serve.

Part of our open work

Liber Open sits beside the rest of what we are opening. Source, still in development, is designed so every course comes with a tutor, and Delta, also in development, is designed to measure any AI tutor, on any model, by how much students learn.
