Unbound: the tutor in the browser

Read anything on the web, and ask about it.

On a porch swing at golden hour, a teenage girl tells her younger brother what she just read on her laptop, and they both laugh.

Much of what people learn, they read on the web: a long article, a chapter for class, a page they found on their own. Too often they read it alone, with no one to ask.

Unbound is Liber, our tutor, in the browser. It is being built so the whole web becomes a place to learn.

What it will do

  • Read with you. Read anything, and ask about it, on the page you are reading.
  • Follow along. The tutor will follow along across every page you read.
  • Ask before it tells. It will ask what you think before it explains, and offer a hint instead of the answer.
  • Go with students. On Campus, it is planned to work across everything a student reads.

The idea behind it

A tutor that lives inside one course can only help with that course. Learners read far more than that. If the tutor sits in the browser, every page can become a lesson, and the learner never has to leave what they are reading to ask a question.

How it fits

Unbound is one of three forms Liber takes. Line brings the tutor to any phone by voice, and Caravan brings it to a laptop with no connection. Read more on the Liber page.

Where it stands

Unbound is being built inside United Education, and it is not out yet. We will release it when it is ready, and its turn will come on the release ledger.
